Siracusa and Noto

The first stop of the tour is Siracusa.
Siracusa is one of the greatest Greek colonies and one of the most important cities of Magna Graecia. Its history is very old and complex, as after the Greek period it was an important city of the Roman Republic first, and Byzantine Empire then.
In 2005, UNESCO selected Siracusa as World Heritage. It is one of the 7 Sicilian places that are listed in this important document.
During the way, the driver will explain the history of the city.
The first stop of the tour is the so-called Neapolis, the archaeological park. There, you will have free time to visit the place and in particular the “Ear of Dionysius”, the Greek Theater and the Roman amphitheater.
Then, you will visit the island of Ortigia. It is the city center of Siracusa where you can walk around visiting the beautiful Cathedral that was built over the Greek temple of Athena. After, you can also see the Greek Fountain of Aretusa. This is the only place in Europe, along with the river Fiumefreddo, where papyrus plant still grows.
There, you will have free time for lunch.
Afterwards, visit of the magnificent Baroque city of Noto, declared UNESCO World Heritage in 2002.
There, you will have free time to stroll through the beautiful streets admiring the buildings of the 18th century considered to be among the finest examples of the Sicilian Baroque style.
The return is expected in the evening.
